Course Description

This course develops advanced skills necessary to design kitchen and bath solutions using the NKBA standards and guidelines where applicable. Projects will include the complete documentation, specification, and job estimates needed to implement the design.

    1                 Demonstrate the application of electrical systems, lighting terminology and types of light.
    2                 Demonstrate application of electrical symbols, and specifies appropriate amounts and types of
                       light.
    3                 Justify the application and selection of ventilation equipment for the kitchen and bath according to
                       codes and NKBA Planning Guidelines.
    4                 Develop plumbing, heating and cooling systems and their components to satisfy the design criteria.
    5                 Argue the implications of altering the mechanical systems as related to the cost, structure, and
                      design.

    1                 Demonstrate understanding of architectural blueprints in order to translate dimension and building
                       features accurately.
    2                 Demonstrate proper use of drafting equipment, computer software, metric and imperial scale
                       applications and measuring techniques per NKBA recommendations.
    3                 Illustrate the use of NKBA Graphic and Presentation Standards to convey the design solution
                       clearly.
    4                 Relate the knowledge of color theories and how color relates to space.
    5                 Evaluate client needs and incorporates them in the design solution.
    6                 Illustrate the application of the NKBA Access Standards.
    7                 Select building codes and NKBA Planning Guidelines for projects to assure the public’s health,
                       safety and welfare.
