Course Description
Students study digital circuit fundamentals in this course. It emphasizes digital electronics and techniques, simplification of logic circuits, sequential and combination logic circuits, programmable logic devices, flip-flops and registers, binary number systems, and arithmetic and logic operations. Laboratory work parallels class work. Students will use trainers and simulation software and systems.

- Understand the study and history of soil mechanics.

Geology and Soil Properties
- Understand geology including rock types, formation, and groundwater.
- Identify soil origins and composition.
- Identify phases of soil and properties such as: plasticity, grain size, cohesion, unit weight, and specific gravity.
Soil Classification and Structure
- Classify soils according to the USCS classification.
- Understand structure and mineralogy of soil components.
Soil Exploration, Sampling, Compaction, and Stabilization
- Identify methods and reasons for site exploration.
- Interpret data recovered from explorations.
- Understand construction techniques for placing and remediation soil related problems.
Soil Behavior and Design Concepts
- Understand water movement in soil, stress/strain.
- Describe stress/strain, consolidation, and settlement.
- Describe shear strength, lateral pressure, bearing capacity, and slope stability.
