Course Description
This course provides a study of content, storage, retrieval, control, retention, and maintenance of health information. Topics include health data structures, content and standards, and healthcare information requirements and standards.
Course Outcomes
Health Data Structure, Content, and Standards
- Explain the structure and use of health information.
- Maintain health data (data elements, data set, databases, and forms design and development).
- Use clinical vocabularies, terminologies and dictionaries used in the organization's health information systems.
- Assess the timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness of data and data sources for patient care management, billing reports, registries, and/or databases.
- Demonstrate filing and numbering systems concepts.
- Discuss data storage retrieval, document archival and imaging systems.
Healthcare Information Requirements and Standards
- Explain the type and content of health record (paper, electronic, computer-based, e-health-personal, web-based).
- Apply policies and procedures to ensure organization-wide compliance with documentation guidelines, regulations, and standards.
- Report compliance findings according to organizational policy.
