Course Description

This course introduces students to the application and reinforcement of hotel, restaurant, and tourism operational principles in an actual job placement. Students become acquainted with occupational responsibilities through realistic work situations and are provided with insights into management applications on the job. Topics include problem solving; adaptability to the job setting; use of proper interpersonal skills; application of hotel, restaurant, and tourism management techniques; and professional development. The occupation-based instruction includes written individualized training plans, written performance evaluations, and weekly reports.

Career Application

  • Prepare a resume.
  • Prepare a vita for use in completing job applications.
  • Outline a job interview which includes expected questions and appropriate responses.
  • Read the "One Minute Manager" book (or a book approved by your instructor) and complete a one page book report.

Career Reinforcement

  • Select and obtain a hospitality related job that allows at least 10 hours per week of work.
  • Produce the Career and Training Goals from at the beginning of the semester.
  • Record and complete the Mid-term Student Evaluation Sheet.
  • Record and complete the Final Student Evaluation.
  • Record and complete the Employer/Student Evaluation (to be completed by the employer).
  • Record and complete the Time Sheet on a weekly basis.
  • Record and complete the Weekly Job Report.
