Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental concepts necessary to develop blueprint reading competencies, interpret drawings, and produce sketches for machine tool applications. Topics include interpreting blueprints, sketching, sectioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and assembly drawings.
Course Outcomes
Interpretation of Blueprints
- Identify the types of lines according to the Alphabet of lines.
- Define the six main views and give examples of alternate views.
- Interpret the dimensions and notes to find material type, number, angles, and holes.
Sketching
- Draw the lines found in the Alphabet of Lines.
- Draw a freehand sketch of a part showing six views.
- Draw a sketch of a part using the isometric view of the part.
- Make a pictorial sketch.
- Draw simple machining sketches using graph paper.
Assembly Drawings
- Identify assembly drawing applications.
- Interpret assembly drawings.
Sectioning
- Identify and interpret sections.
- Identify materials by use of section lines.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Identify and interpret feature control symbols.
- Identify and interpret datums.
- Identify and interpret modifiers.
