Welders held about 424,700 jobs in 2018. The industries employing the most welders in 2018 were as follows: 
    - Manufacturing (63 percent) 
-  Specialty Trade Contractors (6%)
- Self-Employed Workers (6%)
- Repair and Maintenance (4%)  
- Wholesale trade (3%) 
Employment is projected to grow by approximately 3 percent from 2018 through 2028.
