Course Description

This course continues instruction in the theory and application of haircutting and styling techniques. Topics include elevation and design cutting, introduction to hairpieces. blow-dry styling, thermal waving and curling, advanced haircutting and styling, use of clippers, shears, and razors, permanent waving and styling, shaving techniques and beard trimming.

Course Outcomes

Elevation and Design Cutting

  • Identify different elevations from 0-90 degrees.
  • Apply knowledge to perform blow-drying techniques.
  • Use knowledge to practice design haircuts on live models.

Introduction to Hairpieces

  • Identify styles and colors of wigs and hairpieces.
  • Identify supplies and tools in fitting and designing hairpieces.
  • Apply knowledge to measure the head.
  • Use knowledge to fit wig and hairpieces.
  • Identify styles and colors of wigs and hairpieces.
  • Apply knowledge to clean hairpiece.
  • Use knowledge to shape hairpiece to patron's features.
  • Use knowledge to style hairpiece to patron's features.

Blow-Dry Styling

  • Identify brushes and blow-drying implements.

Thermal Waving and Curling

  • Identify the tools used in thermal cutting
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the proper use and handling of thermal curling irons.
  • Describe thermal waving techniques.
  • Apply knowledge to wave hair using thermal instruments.

Advance Haircutting and Styling

  • Use knowledge to perform advanced design cuts on live models.

Use of Clippers, Shears, and Razor

  • Illustrated the use of clippers for advanced design cuts.
  • Illustrate the use of shears for advanced design cuts.
  • Illustrate the use of a razor for advanced design cuts.

Shaving Techniques

  • Apply knowledge to refine shaving skills through practical application.
  • Use knowledge to perform the final cleansing of face and neck.
  • Apply knowledge to perform shaving of the patron's face.
  • Apply astringent or aftershave.
  • Use knowledge to perform shaving of exposed face and neck.

Beard Trimming

  • Apply knowledge to prepare patron for face shave.

  • Apply knowledge to perform the procedure for trimming a mustache or beard.
