Course Description
This course provides training in manicuring, pedicuring, and advanced nail techniques. Topics include implements, products and supplies, hand and foot anatomy and physiology, diseases and disorders, manicure techniques, pedicure techniques, nail product chemistry, safety precautions and practices, and advanced nail techniques (wraps, tips, acrylics).

- Exhibit proper setup for a manicure table displaying implements in order of use.
- Recognize nail tools and implements and correctly identify their application.
- Understand Georgia State Board Cosmetology rules for proper storing of implements and usage.
- Demonstrate a safe and correct handling of implements and tools.
Products and Supplies
- Understand chemistry and safe handling information of the various nail products and their use.
- Select and organize a manicure table with appropriate products/supplies for a basic manicure, French/American manicure, and conditioning oil manicure.
Hand and Foot Anatomy and Physiology
- Understand the anatomy of the hands and feet.
Diseases and Disorders
- Recognize the various diseases and disorders of the hands, feet, and nails, classify them as contagious or non-contagious, and identify conditions that should be referred to a physician.
Manicure Techniques
- Demonstrate a basic manicure, French/American manicure, and a condition oil manicure. employing safety precautions.
Pedicure Techniques
- Understand proper cleaning and disinfecting of pedicure equipment according to Georgia State Board Rules and Regulations.
- Demonstrate basic pedicure techniques executing both pre and post service procedures.
- Demonstrate Spa pedicure techniques executing both pre and post service procedures.
Advanced Nail Techniques (Wraps/Tips/Acrylics)
- Apply a pre-service set-up for a nail wrap; repair a broken/split nail while following proper safety measures.
- Apply a nail tip, exhibit pre-service set-up while demonstrating appropriate safety and sanitation procedures.
- Integrate both pre-service set-up with demonstration of acrylic nail enhancements using forms, over tips, and on natural nails.
- Integrate both pre-service set-up with demonstration of acrylic nail applications using forms while following all safety and sanitation procedures.
Safety Precautions
- Implement safety and sanitation standards to protect the client and technician during all nail services.
- Maintain compliance for all disinfection and sanitation standards applicable to manicuring and pedicuring as set forth by the Georgia State Board Rules and Regulations.
- Prepare a log book; chart critical information required for proper safeguarding sanitation and disinfection procedures as mandated through the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology.
- Comply with Universal Precaution guidelines.
