Course Description
This course provides further instruction for students to develop their skills in the use of lathes. Topics include lathes, lathe setup, lathe operations, and safety.
Course Outcomes
Lathes
- Determine the use and setting of each lathe control for specific jobs (facing, drilling, cutting, and threading).
- Use and maintain coolant system on a lathe.
- Clean and lubricate the lathe to manufacturer's specifications.
- Perform basic lathe maintenance.
- Interpret blueprints for material tyupe and size, type of cutting tool required, and lathe control settings to complete the cutting operation specified.
Lathe Setup
- Determine the type of cutting tool, tool holder, and work holding device for each turning operation.
- Plan sequence of lathe operations.
- Setup engine lathe.
- Indicate and machine parts in a 4-jaw chuck.
Lathe Operations
- Machine parts using faceplate4.
