Course Description
This course explains how to set up gas metal arc welding and flux cored arc welding equipment for open-root V-groove welds. It includes procedures for open-root V-groove welds with GMAW and FCAW equipment on pipes in a variety of positions. This course aligns with select modules found in the National Center for Construction Education and Research Level III welding curricula.
Course Outcomes
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Pipe Welds
- Prepare GMAW equipment for open-root V-groove pipe welds.
- Identify and explain open-root V-groove pipe weld techniques with GMAW equipment.
- Perform open-root V-groove ipe welds in the following positions using GMAW equipment: 1G-ROTATED, 2G, 3G, 6G.
Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) Pipe Welds
- Prepare FCAW equipment for open-root V-groove pipe welds.
- Identify and explain open-root V-groove pipe weld techniques with FCAW equipment.
- Perform open-root V-groove pipe welds in the following positions using FCAW equipment: 1G-ROTATED, 2G, 5G, 6G.
