Course Description
This course will allow students to perform advanced functions of a health information management department. Students will work in realistic work environments in either traditional, non-traditional, or lab settings. Activities will include the application of all HIMT coursework. Students will also learn professional skills to prepare them for employment in the HIM career field.

Course Outcomes
Health Information Management (HIM) Department Functions
- Recognize health information documentation flow in a healthcare setting.
- Perform functions in a health information department.
- Perform HIM related functions to include retrieval, filing, assembly, analysis, coding, and release of information while maintaining confidentiality of protected health information.
Communication and Presentation Skills
- Develop a presentation on a HIT related topic.
- Prepare handouts and material for the presentation.
Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT) national Exam Preparation
- Perform a mock simulate RHIT national exam.
