Course Description
This course explains the major principles and concepts of the U.S. Constitution including governmental powers and structure, and civil liberties. Additionally, this course includes an exploration of the history of the Constitution and case law interpreting it.

Course Outcomes
Operation of the Constitution
- Define constitutional law and describe the basic history of the U.S. Constitution.
- Discuss when it is acceptable for a law to restrict certain freedoms.
- Discuss and apply the standards the courts use in determining whether, and in what manner, government agents may restrict freedoms.
- Describe the due process and equal protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution and their impact on civil rights.
The States and the Federal Government
- Explain the concept of separation of powers.
- Describe the concept of federalism and how it impacts states' right.
Rights of Citizens
- Describe the protections afforded a criminal suspect under the U.S. Constitution.
- Describe the economic and property rights protected by the U.S. Constitution.
The Bill of Rights
- Describe the freedoms protected by the U.S. Constitution such as, speech, press, religion, petition, and assembly.
- Describe the civil rights and liberties protected under the U.S. Constitution.
