Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive discussion of the ethical use of emerging technology. Students will explore the different issues surrounding privacy and law enforcement with unmanned aerial vehicles, the rise of big data, and the amount of information that is collected on individuals using big data algorithms. They will discuss what privacy means and what expectations of privacy individuals can have in the digital age. Other topics on ethics and technology may arise during the semester.

Define and Discuss the Impact of Wearable Computing and Emerging Technologies

• Students will learn about the impact of Wearable Computing and other Emerging Technologies in the public and private sphere.

Define and Discuss Rise of Big Data

• Students will learn about the rise of Big Data and its impact on the public and private spheres.

Define Augmented Reality

• Students will learn about Augmented Reality and discuss its ethical and unethical uses in the public and private spheres.

Discuss the Rise of UAVs

• Students will learn about UAVs and discuss its ethical and unethical uses in the public and private spheres.

Define and Discuss Democratization 

• Students will learn about the democratization of Emerging Technologies and how it has influenced the public and private spheres.
