Course Description
This course provides students with the opportunity to review for the certification exam. Students are also afforded the opportunity to develop a portfolio as they seek to make the transition into the workforce. Topics include searching the job market, preparing the portfolio, stress management and burnout, test-taking strategies, and reviewing for the certification exam.
Course Outcomes
Searching the Job Market
- Utilize the methods for searching the job market for available positions.
Preparing the Portfolio
- Develop the appropriate documentation for the portfolio.
- Utilize the appropriate methods to conduct professional correspondence.
- Develop a resume, cover letter, and a follow-up letter that complies with the American health Information Management Association's Vision 2006 initiative.
- Use strategies that comply with the American Health Information Management Association's Vision 2006 initiative.
- Develop a list of post-interview strategies to employ when seeking a position.
Stress Management and Burnout
- Compile a list of strategies an individual can use to deal with stress on the job.
- Examine methods used to avoid burnout.

Reviewing for the Certification Exam
- Develop a presentation on a HIMT-related topic.
