Course Description

This course introduces the theory, procedures, and products used in the care and treatment of the skin. Topics include client consultation and client preparation, cleansing the skin, techniques for professional massage, facial treatments and body treatments without the aid of machines, mask therapy, aromatherapy, body wraps, reflexology, and air-borne and blood-borne pathogens and OSHA updates. Students must pay a $20 supply fee when registering for this course.

Client Consultation and Preparation

   2             Discuss the importance of the client consultation and the questions to ask during a consultation.

Cleansing the Skin
Order        Description

   1             Explain how to analyze different skin types and which treatment is the best for each.
   2             Discuss the importance of a skin care regimen for home care.
   3             Demonstrate how to make cleansing pads, eyepads, and compresses.
   4             Explain how to properly apply and remove cleansing creams.

Techniques for Professional Massage

   2             Demonstrate the different head drapings for your clients.
   3             Describe the benefits of massage.
   4             Explain the different types of massage.

Facial Treatments and Body Treatments

   1             Explain how to set up a treatment room and prepare a client for treatment.
   2             Demonstrate how to apply a cotton compress and why it is used.

Aromatherapy/Body Wraps/Reflexology
Order        Description

   1             Describe and locate the different nerves and muscles of the face and neck.
   2             Demonstrate hand exercises for the esthetician.
   3             Define and demonstrate the different massage movements.
   4             Explain and demonstrate the purpose and procedure of massage #1, massage #2, and Dr.
                  Jacquet movements.
   5             Discuss the importance of a facial without the aid of a machine in the salon.
   6             Explain the procedures that can be done in the salon and the type of skin each is used for while
                  explaining the benefits of each procedure.
   7             Discuss phytotherapy, its use, and the precautions.
   8             Explain advanced massage techniques such as reflexology and lymphatic drainage.
   9             Describe different water therapies that can be used in a specialized salon.
  10            Discuss algae treatments and body wraps and how they are used in the salon.
  11            Discuss the procedure for a chemical peeling.

Air Borne and Blood Borne Pathogens and OSHA Updates

   1             Comply with state regulations on proper ventilation.
   2             Follow ALL state Laws on proper disinfection methods of equipment.
   3             Maintain a log book listing dates and disinfection methods used.
