Course Description
Introduces the theory and skills necessary to prepare and shave a patron. Simulated shaving procedures will precede practice on live models. Topics include patron preparation, beard preparation, shaving techniques, once-over shave techniques, and safety precautions.
Course Outcomes
Patron Preparation
- Conduct patron preparation and setup for a shave.
- Perform proper seating procedures, to include locking the chair.
- Confer with customer to obtain desired styles.
- Perform proper draping procedures.
Beard Preparation
- Perform proper beard and skin analysis.
- Demonstrate lathering of patron's beard.
- Demonstrate steaming of patron's beard.
- Demonstrate relathering of patron's beard.
Shaving Techniques
- Conduct patron preparation and setup for a shave.
- Properly lather the beard.
- Properly steam the beard.
- Properly relather the beard.
- Identify the standard positions and strokes for razor handling.
- Identify the 14 shaving areas of the face.
- Perform a proper shaving of the patron's face by following the 14 shaving areas.
- Perform the final cleansing of face and neck.
Once-over Shave Techniques
- Identify the four shaving positions and strokes.
- Identify beard growth patterns.
- Demonstrate proper barber positions.
Safety Precautions
- Identify antiseptics for minor cuts.
- Identify techniques to avoid cuts.
- Apply lather to avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and ears.
- Identify and discuss direct contact health concerns.
- Identify and discuss airborne health concerns.
