Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental principles and practices associated with interpreting technical drawings. Topics include the interpretation of blueprints and sketching.
Course Outcomes
Interpretation of Blueprints
- Match technical drafting terms to their correct definitions.
- List the Alphabet of Lines and their use.
- Given 1 or more of the 6 principal views, solve for the missing dimensions.
- List the 2 different dimension systems used in technical drafting.
- Describe the difference between general and local notes.
- Calculate accumulated tolerance.
- Calculate limit, unilateral and bilateral tolerances.
- Identify 6 sectional views and their use.
- Identify and size the following: diameters, radii, blind holes, clearance holes, chamfers, fillets, rounds, keyseats and keyways, counterbores and countersink, finish symbols, bosses and pads, slotted holes, tapers, necks, steel carbon content, spotface, annular grooves.
Sketching
- Sketch the Alphabet of Lines.
- Draw a freehand sketch using the 6 principal views.
- Draw a freehand isometric sketch to correct proportions.
- Draw a freehand oblique cabinet sketch to correct proportions.
- Use 5 x 5 and ISO grid paper to sketch technical drawings.
