Course Description

This course covers the knowledge and skills required to use database management software through course demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and projects. Topics and assignments will include database concepts, structuring databases, creating and formatting database elements, entering and modifying data, creating and modifying queries, presenting and sharing data, and managing and maintaining databases.

Database Concepts

  • Define terminology relating to databases.
  • Identify differences between database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Identify differences between a database and a database object.

  • Demonstrate the ability to save and retrieve a file to various locations.

Structuring A Database

  • Define data needs and types by defining appropriate data fields, field types, and tables.
  • Demonstrate the ability to define, modify, and print table relationships.
  • Demonstrate the ability to add, set, change, or remove primary keys.
  • Demonstrate the ability to split databases.

Creating and Formatting Database Elements

  • Demonstrate the ability to create a database with and without a template.

  • Demonstrate the ability to create forms and reports by using the Design View and by using wizards.
