Course Description
This course provides instruction in conventional/unibody automobile body structural panel repairs emphasizing a variety of removal and replacement techniques. Students must pay a $15 supply fee when registering for this course.
Course Outcomes
Spot Weld Removal
Order Description
1 Explain various methods to remove spot welds and how each is used to include spot
cutter (drill type), spot cutter (hole saw type).
2 Explain how to locate spot welds and demonstrate on spot welded panel.
3 Remove spot welds using above methods on panel according to recommended
procedures.
Damaged Panel Removal and Replacement
Order Description
1 Make necessary cuts to remove damage.
2 Remove any spot welds and follow manufacturers' recommendations when working with
HSLA panels.
3 Fasten replacement panels and check fit.
4 Restore corrosion protection.
5 Finish repaired panel.
Partial or Complete Quarter Panel Removal and Replacement
Order Description
1 Analyze damage and determine whether replacement will be partial or complete.
2 Explain proper method for removal and replacement of panel to include
removal of spot welds, seams, flanges, etc.
3 Remove damaged panel.
4 Fit panel using clamps, screws or rivets.
5 Align and replace replacement panel using correct welding procedures and finishing.
6 Restore corrosion protection.
Rocker Panel Removal and Replacement
Order Description
1 Explain process for removing damaged center pillar.
2 Determine whether panel is two-piece or three-piece design.
3 Examine rocker panel for intermittent or continuous reinforcements and decide whether
complete panel or section will be replaced.
4 Remove, align and replace rocker panels.
5 Restore corrosion protection and finish.
Center Pillar Post Removal and Replacement
Order Description
1 Explain process for removing damaged center pillar.
2 Remove center pillars by drilling out spot welds and cutting seams if necessary.
3 Align and fit replacement panel using screws, clamps, pop rivets, etc.
4 Replace center pillar using proper welding methods and finish.
5 Restore corrosion protection and finish.
