Course Description
This practicum focuses on infection control in the dental office and assisting with diagnostic and simple operative procedures. Topics include infection control procedures, clinical diagnostic procedures, and general dentistry procedures.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able:
I. INFECTION CONTROL PROCEDURES
- Observe and/or perform appropriate infection control procedures.
II. CLINCIAL DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES
- Observe and/or assist with clinical diagnostic procedures using the concepts of four-handed dentistry.
III. GENERAL DENTISTRY PROCEUDRES
- Observe and/or assist with general dentistry procedures using the concepts of four-handed dentistry.

Dental Practicum I
Course Competencies
Course Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student will have done the following:
- Perform and/or observe appropriate infection control procedures.
- Observe and/or assist with clinical diagnostic procedures using the concept of four-handed dentistry.
- Observe and/or assist with radiological procedures.
- Student will keep a detailed time sheet to verify the minimum number of contact hours have been satisfied. The time sheet will be verified weekly by the supervising dentist or staff member at the clinical site.
- Complete self-evaluation form at the end of each clinical.
- Complete clinical site-evaluation form at the end of clinical.
- Follow criteria for acceptable conduct while at clinical site.
- Complete student clinical journal and weekly report and turn in at the appointed time.
- Discuss personal experiences at weekly group session.
