Course Description
This practicum focuses on advanced general dentistry procedures and chairside in dental specialties with special emphasis on nonsurgical specialties. Topics include advanced general dentistry and specialties.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
I. Advanced General Dentistry
- Using the concepts of four-handed dentistry, assist with general dentistry procedures
II. Specialties
- Prepare, expose, process, and evaluate radiographs using prescribed techniques.

Dental Practicum II
Course Competencies
Course Competencies: Upon the completion of this course, the student will:
- Perform and/or observe each to the preceding competency areas under the direction of a licensed dentist.
- Student will keep a detailed time sheet to verify that a minimum of 60 contact hours have been completed. This time sheet will be verified weekly by the dentist or staff member at the assigned clinical site.
- Compete self-evaluation form at the end of each rotation.
- Follow criteria for acceptable conduct while on rotations: dress code, attendance policy and clinical policies.
- Participate in a weekly one hour group session for “share and tell” so that students may share their clinical experiences with their peers.
- Complete student clinical journal and turn it in when instructed.
- Complete a clinical evaluation form at the end of each rotation.
- Be evaluated by dentist and a staff member at each clinical site.
