Course Description

This course provides instruction in removal and replacement methods of a variety of non-structural cosmetic and safety features of the automobile as well as bolt-on body panels.

Course Outcomes

Interior and Exterior Trim

 

Order            Description

1                Identify various types of interior and exterior trim.

2                Remove and install interior and exterior trim properly.

3                Demonstrate the ability to repair interior and exterior trim.

 

Mirrors

 

Order            Description

1                Identify various types of exterior and interior mirrors.

2                Demonstrate the ability to repair various types of exterior and interior mirrors.

3                Demonstrate the ability to properly adjust and remove exterior and interior mirrors.

4                Demonstrate the ability to properly replace components or complete mirror units.

 

Weather Stripping

 

Order            Description

1                Identify types of weather-stripping, where weather stripping is used, and why it is used.

2                Demonstrate ability to properly remove and install different types of weather stripping.

 

Stationary and Non-Stationary Glass

 

Order            Description

1                Identify different types of glass and their applications.

2                Describe glass replacement procedures.

3                Demonstrate ability to properly remove and replace stationary glass.



4                Demonstrate ability to properly remove and replace non-stationary glass.

5                Demonstrate the ability to locate and repair wind noises and water leaks.

 

Interior Components and Fasteners

 

Order            Description

1               Demonstrate ability to remove interior components, such as seats, carpets, steering wheel, dash pads and instrument panels.

2                Identify types of fasteners used in automotive manufacture.

3               Identify special tools used in removal and replacement of fasteners used in auto body construction.

4                Explain sizing applications used in nuts, bolts, and screws.

 

Hood, Closure Panels, and Header Panels Removal and Replacement

 

      Order            Description

1                Inspect misaligned hood or deck panel.

2                Locate adjustment points.

3                Select proper tools.

4                Make adjustments necessary to secure alignment with adjacent panels.

 

Fender Removal and Installation

 

      Order            Description

1                Inspect damage.

2                Check for related damage.

3                Select hand tools.

4                Decide on the method of replacing panel.

5                Remove damaged fender.

6                Check for hidden damage.

7                Straighten and align inner fender of skirt.

8                Transfer moldings and accessories.

9                Install replacement fender.

10               Adjust and align fender.

 

   Door Removal and Installation

 

      Order            Description

1                Inspect damaged door to determine proper selection of tools.

2                Remove damaged door.

3                Remove inside hardware and trim from damaged door.

4                Remove door glass, regulators, and guides.

5                Remove all door lock mechanisms.

6                Remove outside door handle and lock cylinder.

7                Remove all weather stripping.

8                Install all hardware, weather stripping, trim, and accessories on new door shell.

9                Soundproof new door with undercoating.

10               Install and align new door.

 

Headlamp and Filler Panels Removal and Replacement

 

     Order            Description

1               Inspect vehicle for sagged springs, car riding height, tire pressure, and clean head light lens, etc.

2                Select required tools.

3                Remove head lamp doors.

 

 

 

Grill Removal and Replacement



        Order            Description

1                Inspect damaged grill.

2                Select proper tools.

3                Remove damaged grill.

4                Straighten necessary brackets or mountings.

5                Install grill.

6                Align for fit.

 

Headlamp Adjustment

 

        Order            Description

1                Adjust head lamp to proper aim using necessary head light aiming equipment.

2                Replace head lamp doors.
