Course Description

This course introduces the materials, tools, and operations required to repair minor collision damage, and it provides instruction in metallic and non-metallic auto body repair techniques. Students must pay a $35 supply fee when registering for this course.

Body repair materials identification

Body fillers usage

1               Demonstrate knowledge of using body filler by properly mixing and applying body filler to a previously prepared panel to trade standards.

 

Disc grinder procedures

 

Order            Description

1               Demonstrate knowledge of grinders and their usage by safely and properly using crosscut and buffing techniques on appropriate panel as directed by instructor.

 

 

Abrasive and sandpaper grits usage

Safety procedures

1               Demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures by properly and safely using each tool required in minor collision repair.

Stud welders

1                Demonstrate knowledge of stud welders to properly repair damaged panels.

 

Cracked or splintered area repair

 

Order            Description

1                Repair minor cuts and cracks in plastic and rubber parts using adhesives properly.

 

Bonding agent usage

1               Repair gouges, tears, and punctures in plastic by means of a chemical bonding process properly.

 

Composite body parts removal and replacement procedure

 

Order            Description

1                Explain the safety precautions used when working with carbon fiber.

2                Explain how composites are used in adhesives to reinforce the damaged surfaces.

3                Identify types of composites.

4                Demonstrate the ability to properly prepare, apply, and finish composite panels.

 

Plastics identification

Sheet molded compound (SMC) repairs
