Course Outcomes

Lathes
   O
rder                Description
1                    Determine the use and setting of each lathe control for specific jobs (facing, drilling, cutting,
                             and threading).
2                    Use and maintain coolant system on a lathe.
3                    Clean and lubricate the lathe to manufacturer's specifications.
       4                    Perform basic lathe maintenance.
5                    Interpret blueprints for material type and size, type of cutting tool required, and lathe control
settings to complete the cutting operation specified.

Lathe Setup
   O
rder                Description
1                    Determine the type of cutting tool, tool holder, and work holding device for each turning
                             operation.
2                    Plan sequence of lathe operations.
       3                    Setup engine lathe.
4                    Indicate and machine parts in a 4-jaw chuck.

Lathe Operations
   O
rder                Description
       1                    Machine parts using faceplate.
       2                    Machine eccentric diameters.
       3                    Thread internal diameters.
       4                    Repair threads.
       5                    Cut special thread forms.

6                    Hold dimensions using feed, precision, and indicator stops on lathes.

7                    Hold dimensions using digital readout on lathe.

8                    Machine parts using carbide tooling.

9                    Machine parts using ceramic tooling.

10                   Machine parts using steady rest.

11                   Machine long parts using follower rest.

12                   Machine parts using jigs and fixtures.

13                   Grind parts using tool post grinder.

14                   Machine parts using quick change tooling system.

15                   Identify machining problems, determine the cause, and correct problems.
