Course Description
This course provides further instruction for students to develop their skills in the use of milling machines. Topics include safety, advanced milling calculation, and advanced milling machine setup and operations. Students must pay a $30 supply fee when registering for this course.

Advanced Milling Calculations
Order Description
1 Use Machinery Handbook to determine feeds and speeds.
2 Calculate X and Y coordinates for holes on a bolt circle.
3 Solve indexing calculation problems.
Advanced Milling Machine Setup
Order Description
1 Plan sequence of vertical and horizontal milling operations.
2 Align workpiece, work holding devices, and fixtures on vertical mill and/or horizontal mill.
3 Setup indexing head for manual operations.
4 Setup rotary table for manual operations.
5 Select the type of holding device or hold down system according to the workpiece shape and
size.
Advanced Milling Machine Operations
Order Description
1 Machine parts using carbide cutters on vertical mill.
2 Machine radii using corner rounding cutter on vertical mill.
3 Machine slot using slitting saw or wheel cutter on vertical and/or horizontal mill.
4 Bore, face, and recess diameters using boring head.
5 Mill multiple surfaces using indexing fixture on vertical mill and/or horizontal mill.
6 Mill multiple surfaces using dividing head on vertical mill and/or horizontal mill.
7 Machine tool steels and/or stainless steel on milling machine.
8 Drill hole patterns using rotary table.
9 Drill bolt circle hole patterns using X and Y moves.
10 Identify milling problems, determine causes, and correct problems.
