Course Description
This course introduces industrial qualification methods, procedures, and requirements. Students are prepared to meet the qualification criteria of selected national welding codes and standards. Topics include test methods and procedures, national industrial codes and standards, fillet and groove weld specimens, and preparation for qualifications and job entry. Students must pay a $20 supply fee when registering for this course.
Course Outcomes
Test Methods and Procedures
Order Description
1 Identify welding positions and limits of qualifications.
2 Prepare metals to be used in the weld test.
3 List and explain the various types of qualification tests to be used.
4 Weld specimens in the various positions and configurations to be tested.
5 Prepare specimens to be tested.
6 Test weld using guided bend test and/ or other test methods to be used.
7 Determine corrective procedures to improve faulty welds.
National Instructional Codes and Standards
Order Description
1 Prepare basic welds using each of the standard processes to meet national codes and standards.
Fillet and Groove Weld Specifications
Order Description
1 Provide fillet and grove welded specimens in accordance with specified standards.
Preparation for Qualifications and Job Entry
Order Description
1 Determine which type of welding job to apply for based upon qualifications in welding skills and
knowledge.
2 Identify starting positions in welding and make application for them.
