Course Description
This course introduces the theory and skills necessary to apply haircutting techniques. Topics include advanced haircutting techniques; proper safety and decontamination precautions; hair design elements; cutting implements; head, hair, and body analysis; safety and infection control; and client consultation.

Order Description
1 Identify and understand terms which apply to haricutting.
Safety, Decontamination and Precautions
Order Description
1 Follow accurate methods of sanitation and disinfection for surfaces and implements.
2 Demonstrate proper storing and maintenance care of haircutting implements.
3 Maintain client protection, i.e. proper draping, palming of shears/razor, safe handling of tools and implements and following sanitation and disinfection guidelines for client protection.
4 Demonstrate safe and proper use of various haircutting tools.
Hair Design Elements
Order Description
1 Understand the five elements of design in relation to haircutting.
2 Observe the principles of design that influence the chosen haircut.
3 Establish harmony between the haircut and the client's facial shape/features and profile.
Cutting Implements
Order Description
1 Identify haircutting implements and list their functions.
2 Demonstrate how to hold, use, and care for haircutting implements.
Haircutting Techniques
Order Description
1 Demonstrate sectioning and use of guidelines and elevations to dictate cutting patterns.
2 Perform cutting techniques utilizing shears, razor, and clippers.
3 Demonstrate the procedure for checking a complete haircut.
4 Use texturing techniques.
Client Consultation
Order Description
1 Establish proper greeting techniques.
2 Collaborate with the client to establish their needs in a haircut.
3 Discuss proper maintenance procedures for clients.
Head, Hair and Body Analysis
Order Description
1 Demonstrate a knowledge of head and body forms.
2 Analyze the client's hair, head and body to determine appropriate style cut.
