Course Description

This course provides the experience necessary for professional development and completion of requirements for state licensure. Instructors will place emphasis on the display of professional conduct and positive attitudes. The appropriate number of applications for completion of state board service credit requirements for this course may be met in a laboratory setting. Topics include texture services; permanent waving and relaxers; hair color and lightening; skin, scalp, and hair treatment; haircutting; styling; dispensary; manicure, pedicure, and advanced nail techniques; reception; safety precautions and decontamination; Hazardous Duty Standards Act compliance; and State Board foundation prep.

Texture Services
Order Description

1 Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving skills, completion of
mandatory lab competencies as directed by instructor in permanent waving retouch
relaxing and virgin relaxer applications.

Haircolor and Lightening
Order Description

1               Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
    towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving skills, completion of
    mandatory lab competencies as directed by instructor in temporary color, virgin lightener,
    lightener retouch, virgin tint, retouch tint, and lash and brow tint applications.

Skin, Scalp, and Hair Treatments
Order Description

1               Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
    towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving, completion of mandatory
    lab competencies as directed in facials, scalp treatments and hair treatment applications.

Haircutting

Order Description

1               Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
    towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving skills, completion of
    mandatory lab competencies as directed by instructor in basic and advanced haircuts.

Manicure/Pedicure/Advanced Nail Techniques
Order Description

1               Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
    towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving skills, completion of
    mandatory lab competencies as directed by instructor in manicures, pedicures, and advanced
    nail techniques.

Styling
Order Description

1               Adapt to salon environment, i.e. realistic proficiency in time management; progression
    towards minimal assistance from instructor in problem solving skills, completion of
    mandatory lab competencies as directed by instructor in roller sets, styling techniques,
    blow-dry styling, pin curls and fingerwaves styles.

Dispensary

Reception

      1        Resolve client complaints with successful results.

Safety Precautions/Decontamination
   Order           Description
      1                Prioritize completion of daily sanitary and decontamination guidelines as well as maintaining
                      safety equipment i.e. eye wash station, first aid kit, blood spill kit, fire extinguisher, MSDS
                        stations.
