Course Description
This course introduces the theory and application of temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent-deposit only, and permanent hair coloring, hair lightening, and color removal products. Topics include the principles of color theory, hair structure, color, tone, classifications of color, hair lightening, levels of color, color removal, application procedures, safety precautions and practices, client consultation, product knowledge, hair color challenges, corrective solutions, lash and brow tints, and special effects. Students must pay a $20 supply fee when registering for this course.

Classifications of Color

1 Describe the types of haircolor and give examples of when and why each are used.
Hair Lightening and Color Removal
Order Description
1 Compare the different hair lightening products and their uses.
Application Procedures
Order Description
1 Select the type of temporary haircolor to be used and apply it correctly.
2 Choose the type of semipermanent haircolor to be used and demonstrate it's
application.
3 Prepare the appropriate type of demipermanent haircolor and show it's use.
4 Select the appropriate permanent haircolor product to be used and apply it correctly.
5 Describe the natural and metallic haircolors, discuss why they are not used in the salon,
and recognize when a client may have used them at home.
Safety Precautions
Order Description
1 Include safety precautions in all hair coloring services.
2 Use a patch test before all appropriate haircolor services.
3 Demonstrate the test given for metallic salts on the hair shaft.
Consultation, Communication and Record and Release Forms
Order Description
1 Select appropriate materials for the consultation.
2 Review the information card filled out by client.
3 Utilize the release form.
4 Prepare haircolor records.
Product Knowledge

1 Describe and discuss the various color formulations used in the salon.

1 Identify the various problems in haircolor.
2 Give examples of solutions for each of the common haircolor problems.

1 Demonstrate foiling, free hand, cap highlighting techniques, low lighting and lash and
brow tint.
