Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive study in the care of skin for theory and practical application. Instructors will place emphasis on client consultation, safety precautions and practices, skin conditions, product knowledge, basic facials, facial massage, corrective facial treatments, hair removal, and make-up application. Other topics in this course include advanced skin treatments in electrotherapy, light therapy, galvanic current, high frequency, and microdermabrasion.

Disease and Disorders
Order Description
1 Identify all the primary functions within each layer of the skin.
2 Identify factors that influence aging of the skin.
3 Explain the structure and function of the human skin.
4 Recognize all observable signs of skin and scalp disorders and diseases.
5 Differentiate between diseases and disorders that can be safely treated in a salon from
those that should be referred to a physician.
Basic Facial
Order Description
1 Describe different types of products and supplies used in basic facial treatments.
2 Identify the various types of massage movements and their physiological effects.
3 Describe various types of cosmetics and how they are utilized.
4 Perform basic facial treatments for normal, dry and oily skin conditions.
5 Identify different facial types and demonstrate procedures for basic make-up application.
Client Consultation and Skin Analysis
Order Description
1 Understand the importance of a client consultation, health screening and client history
evaluation prior to providing skin care services.
2 Distinguish any contraindications that could adversely affect treatment or could jeopardize
the health of the client.
3 Chart client skin care analysis then file away.
4 Consider information gathered when conducting a consultation to be privileged and held
strictly confidential.
Hair Removal
Order Description
1 Describe the different types of both temporary and permanent hair removal including
contraindications of both.
2 Assess contraindications while performing a client consultation for hair removal.
3 Safely demonstrate various procedures for temporary hair removal.
4 Know the importance of following all universal precautions for hair removal services.

1 Identify usage of electrical implements used for basic facials and advanced facial
procedures.
Electrotherapy and Light Therapy
Order Description
1 Describe microcurrent and high frequency current, light therapy, and microdermabrasion
then list the benefit of each service.
2 Assess knowledge of electricity.
3 Demonstrate knowledge of safe handling of electrotherapy devices and light therapy
equipment.
4 Identify products and supplies used for facial treatments.
5 Demonstrate a corrective facial treatment.
6 Differentiate between a positive and a negative pole when using galvanic current.
7 Demonstrate safely and accurately advanced facial procedures for a corrective facial with
the use of galvanic current.
8 Demonstrate safely and accurately advanced facial procedures with the use of tesla high
frequency current.
Advanced Facial Treatments
Order Description
1 Demonstrate safely and accurately preservative facial treatment. Initiate communication on
basic home skin care.
2 Define Microdermabrasion.
3 Observe a Microdermabrasion treatment.
Safety Precautions
Order Description
1 Maintain work area in a safe sanitary manner.
2 Identify safe and unsafe scalp procedures using Faradic or Sinusoidal current and High
frequency current.
3 Follow safety precautions for skin, scalp, and hair removal.
4 Comply with Universal Precaution guidelines.
