Course Description
This course provides the laboratory experiences necessary for the development of the skill levels required to be a competent cosmetologist. The allocation of time to the various phases of cosmetology is required by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology. This course includes a portion of the required hours for licensure. Topics include permanent waving and relaxers; various hair color techniques, foiling and lightening; skin, scalp, and hair treatments; haircutting; styling; manicure, pedicure, and advanced nail techniques; dispensary; reception; safety precautions and decontamination; Hazardous Duty Standards Act compliance; and professional conduct.
Course Outcomes
Permanent Waving and Relaxers
Order Description
1 Implement satisfactory standard methods of procedures and application toward execution
of competency completion with direction of instructor for permanent waving, virgin
relaxers, retouch relaxers and soft curl permanents.
Hair Coloring and Lightening
Order Description
1 Implement satisfactory standard methods of procedures and application toward execution
of competency completion with direction of instructor for temporary color, virgin lightener
application, retouch lightener, virgin tint, retouch tint, lash and brow tint, cap applications
and foiling techniques.
Skin, Scalp, and Hair Treatments

of competency completion with direction of instructor for facials, scalp treatments and hair
treatments.
Haircutting

1 Implement satisfactory standard methods of procedures and application toward execution
of competency completion with direction of instructor of competency completion as
directed by instructor of haircutting techniques.
Styling

of competency completion with direction of instructor for roller set/comb-outs, thermal
styling; blow-dry styling, pin curls, and finger waves.
Manicure/Pedicure/Advanced Nail Techniques

of competency completion with direction of instructor for manicures, pedicures, and
advanced nail techniques.
Dispensary
Order Description
1 Organize and maintain dispensary; i.e. dispersing of products to students, organization of
products and supplies, inventory and supply management.
Reception

1 Adapt to interactions with clients, display acceptable work ethic values, and perform
receptionist requirements toward completion of hours as directed by instructor.
Safety Precautions/Decontamination
